Barbara has been practicing law for over 35 years. Her main areas of expertise are real estate, small estates, wills, finance, employment matters and general business. For 11+ years, Ms. Scheuermann acted as outside Assistant General Counsel, and then as outside General Counsel, for a large multi-state corporation headquartered in New York City. Prior to establishing their current practice, Ms. Scheuermann was Senior Counsel in the public finance group of Hodgson Russ LLP, and prior to that she was a General Partner in the Mineola, NY based law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C.
Barbara’s experience includes guiding clients through residential and commercial real estate matters; real estate leases, ground leases, refinances, sales and purchases of real estate; project financing; drafting documents for small estates ans wills; franchises; entity formation; shareholder and membership agreements, buy/sell agreements and related issues; corporate and financing due diligence and governance; contract drafting, review and negotiation; general corporate, employment and business matters; drafting and updating employer handbooks; business creations and dissolutions; mergers for small companies; business succession plans; asset and stock purchases and sales; corporate spin-offs; and bond counsel representing various Industrial Development Agencies. Some representative types of clients which Ms. Scheuermann has assisted are individuals, family owned businesses, small to medium sized businesses, radio groups, medical practices, waste management operations, marinas, retail properties, developers, manufacturing operations and franchises. Ms. Scheuermann received her J.D. from Syracuse University Law School; her B.A. from SUNY College at Buffalo and her A.A. from Cayuga County Community College. Art is a seasoned litigator with 30+ years’ experience. He spent his initial years in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office until leaving to enter private practice in 1998. For the past 12 years, Art has been General Counsel to School Administrators Association of New York State (“SAANYS”).
In addition to his role as General Counsel to SAANYS, Art is Of Counsel to Scheuermann & Scheuermann, LLP. He has extensive experience in both criminal and civil litigation, all areas of employment matters, collective bargaining agreements, contract grievances, disciplinary matters and discrimination suits. Art has tried matters in both state and federal courts, inclusive of appellate courts, and has represented clients before administrative agencies, including the State Education Department, the Office of the New York Comptroller, New York State Teachers Retirement System, Public Employment Relations Board, State Liquor Authority and Department of Motor Vehicles. He also has arbitration and mediation expertise. As Of Counsel to our firm, Art has represented individuals in criminal matters, vehicle & traffic matters, DUIs, disciplinary actions, discrimination suits, wrongful termination suits, retirement issues and miscellaneous civil litigation matters. During his tenure with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Art was involved in trials and investigations involving racketeering, white collar crime, narcotics, major crimes, public corruption and environmental crimes. Mr. Scheuermann received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and his B.A. cum laude from Brandeis University. He provides service to his community through his role as a past President and as a current active member and coach of the Bethlehem Soccer Club in Bethlehem, N.Y. |
